The journey began in the early 19th century when natural rubber was first introduced in adhesive applications. By 1845, the first rubber-based adhesive for cloth-backed tapes had already been patented, laying the foundation for industrial bonding.
A major breakthrough came with the discovery of vulcanization in 1839, a process that enhanced rubber’s durability, elasticity, and resistance to extreme temperatures. As industries expanded in the early 20th century, adhesives became critical in automotive manufacturing and construction, leading to the rise of pressure-sensitive technologies by 1925.
During World War II, the scarcity of natural rubber led to the development of synthetic alternatives such as Styrene-Butadiene Rubber (SBR), marking a new era of innovation.
